The New Connections website is a major collection of information about regional, rural and remote telecommunications and information technology, designed to inform regional and rural organisations and consumers.
The presentation will emphasise the Government's role as a provider of strategic advice and support to those in regional and rural Australia. As the range of commercial services grows and the number of government programs increases, the need for provision of accessible information and advice increases. New Connections is a two-way information tool which facilitates the provision of information and advice by government as well as enabling communities, the telecommunications industry and individuals to post information about their services and projects.
The presenter will take the audience through the ways in which the site facilitates the building of online communities and networks. Participation can be by contributing links and information to the online catalogue of resources on the website or by participating in online discussions about current policy directions and initiatives. http://www.newconnections.gov.au
